QUICKBOOKS DESKTOP CHANGES

OVERVIEW

As we receive updates about bookkeeping software, we want to keep you informed. Recently, Intuit announced updates to the QuickBooks Desktop versions of their software. In this newsletter, we will provide an explanation of these changes, how they affect you, and what your options are.

WHAT CHANGED

Effective September 30, 2024, Intuit has decided to stop selling several versions of new QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions in the U.S. This applies to the following products:

– QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus

– QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus

– QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus

– QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

IMPACT & OPTIONS – 2021 & OLDER VERSIONS

If you use a version of QuickBooks Desktop that is 2021 or older:

– QuickBooks no longer supports your file. This means that basic functions like writing checks, invoicing, and accounting will still work, but any add-on features like payroll and bank links will no longer work.

– Option 1: Buy a 2024 subscription of your QuickBooks desktop file before September 30, 2024. This will ensure your QuickBooks file will stay eligible for QuickBooks support. This subscription renews annually, and the 2024 version will be supported for 3 years. Once the three years are up, you can then upgrade again (e.g., you can buy the 2024 version now and then use it for 3 years before needing to upgrade again to retain QuickBooks support).

– Option 2: Keep using your old version and create a weekly backup so that if your data is corrupted, you have a recent backup that can be converted to QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Enterprise.

– Option 3: Migrate to QB Enterprise or QBO to reinstate eligibility for continued QB support.

– Option 4: Switch to a different software.

IMPACT & OPTIONS – 2022/2023 VERSIONS

If you use a version of QuickBooks Desktop that is 2022/2023:

– You are already on a subscription plan that renews annually and you pay an annual fee.

– Your version is supported for 3 years from the year of your version date (e.g., someone using 2022 will be supported by QuickBooks until 2025)

– At the end of your 3 years, you have three options:

– Option 1: Upgrade your subscription to the newest version at that time to retain support from QuickBooks for the next 3 years.

– Option 2: Stay on your old subscription, pay the annual fee, but lose QuickBooks support.

– Option 3: Migrate to QuickBooks Enterprise or QuickBooks Online to retain support after your 3-year support window ends.

– Option 4: Switch to a different software.

IMPACT & OPTIONS – NEW TO QUICKBOOKS

New clients to QuickBooks

– After September 30, 2024, the only options available for purchase will be QuickBooks Enterprise or QuickBooks Online.
